A friend is using his smoker for the first time. He called and asked me where the top vent should be. I automatically said wide open. Then I remembered it's a small electric vertical. I have only used stick and charcoal burners. Never used electric. Where do those who use electric recommend. I am not sure of the model. I may go look in a minute. I searched but didn't see a consistent answer.
Thanks in adavance

Doers it have other vents? I had a propane one (my first smoker) and always kept the top one wide open.

Not sure if there is a lower vent. He's only 2 blocks away so I am going to go look in a minute. I had said to call me if he needed help. I forgot how ignorant I was about electric smokers. :-D

I had a Brinkman electric water smoker many years ago and there is no lower vent because there is no fire. Top vent should be wide open for the draw and hopefully smoke to exit.

I have a couple of electrics and always leave the exhaust wide open! Don't want creosite dripping on your food!

Used to have a Cookshack electric. The top vent was just a hole.

I went and checked. It's a masterbuilt. It only has a top vent which he had half open. earlier he barely had it open and I told him to open it up.
Thanks for the replies. It's his first attempt. It smelled good so far.
