Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches???

My wife swears this is a thing. Not to dip in the chili or anything but to have alongside a bowl of chili. I think she needs her head examined.

Anybody else hear of this or other strange combinations?

Beer bread, cornbread, or oyster crackers. Plus cheese and diced onions.

My wife likes it over spaghetti noodles.

No PBJ. Ack.

For me it's plain Frito's with cheddar cheese. Maybe a couple of jalapeno slices.

This, anything else (besides cornbread) and you are doing it wrong.

Ive never heard of PB&J but for sure just plain PB sandwiches. Around here it is pimento cheese, grilled cheese, or PB sandwiches.

I'm from kansas and cinnamon rolls are almost always served alongside chili. I have a hunch that its a result of it being part of school cafeteria requirement.

Big ol' hunk of buttered bread!
Chopped onions and sour cream on top.
Oh, and it has to be painfully hot.

I've never heard of a few things in there. Cinnamon Rolls? PB&J? We made a big pot of chili on Sunday. I also made a giant pan of cast iron corn bread. I set out hot sauce, jalapeno slices, cheese, and sour cream. And she used some evil chopped raw onions.

For leftovers, I like to serve it over a baked potato. Grilled cheese sounds like it would compliment it well.

Yep, chile on everything, but with chili I like saltine crackers. But, since chile is already on everything, I guess I like chile with my chili.

Strangest thing I've ever heard of is putting beans in chili . . .

Jalapeno cheese cornbread is my preferred side for chili.

I'm amazed that a grilled cheese sandwich hasn't made the list.
Other than cornbread or chili over rice it's my go to side.

Chili without beans? I automatically start looking for the hotdog in a bun, and the chopped onions, to put with it.
Otherwise, it's totally incomplete and inedible.

When it's the two of us, just a bowl of chili made with pulled pork and smoked chuck (and yes beans) with corn bread.
On holidays with kids and grandkids, we'll put down a bed of rice, a few fritos, chili, a splash of enchilada sauce, sour cream, grated cheese, a dash of crushed pecans and a pinch of coconut.
A good friend insists on pouring his chili over a slice of fresh chocolate cake. It's okay, kinda grows on you.

Buttered saltine crackers. Fritos or tortilla chips are also not bad with chili.

Same here. In school we always had 3 crackers and a slice of government cheese and a bowl of what they SAID was chili. One of the crackers always had peanut butter on it. Just dumped everything in the chili and stirred it up. That was 40 years ago and I still eat it that way to this day.

Growing up we would eat PB&J with tomato soup. I'd dip the sandwich in the soup and eat it. And chili is just chunky tomato soup, right?

I always dipped grilled cheese in tomato soup. I think you and my wife should see the same doctor... :becky:

Chili over a bed of Fritos with grated cheese on top.
I don't put whole beans in my chili, but I do add a large dollop
of canned refried beans and let it cook in. Maybe the whole can if the
recipe is big enough.

Eat it numerous ways, such as over buttermilk cornbread, over rice with then scooped out with fresh tortilla chips or dipped with soft tortilla. Pretty much any way it can be served...

I haven't actually made any red chili in a long, long time, I always tend to make green chile stew, but now I guess I'll have to break down and make a pot of chili and try all these different combos.

I am a big fan of chili over rice!!! Learned this little delight while I was stationed in Hawaii...but they eat everything with rice so...

Strangest thing I've ever seen peanut butter on was a hamburger...also a Hawaii thing but a friend of mine swears it's best thing to happen to the burger since the bun lol

I love all the response to this thread! It's obvious that it depends on what part of the country you are from as to what you like with your chili. My wife's family is from Indiana and won't each chili without little macaroni in it and peanut butter sandwich. My family always put beans in our chili and always served it with cornbread or some good sourdough rolls.
