I'll be cooking a chicken on the PBC today. I've always cut them in half, and the cook times have been between 1.5 and 2 hrs. However today, we're celebrating my son's birthday (he's 5), and given the festive occasion, I'd like to leave the 6lb bird whole. Dinner is at 6:00pm, and I don't want to be "that guy" who is pacing around his cooker as the rest of dinner is being served...:icon_smile_tongue:

How long for a 6lb whole chicken on the PBC (roughly)?

I'd say if you allow 3 hours you'll be fine.

Unless you want it for presentation, any reason to leave it whole and not spatchcock it?

Just remove the backbone and lay it flat on the grate.

Thanks! 3hrs was my best guess, but I've often been surprised by cook times. Spatchcock is my favorite way to do chickwn on a grate, but the PBC does some kind of voodoo magic when a chicken is hanging.

I'd say 3 hours for a whole bird like that too. Just keep that instant thermometer nearby after 2 hours.

Let's see 2/3r(x-7z)*5z- ~ divided by the square rt. 96578543256789 = about 3 hrs.

I guess what we are missing is cook temp? At 325 it's under 2 hours, for sure.
