Here are some pictures of an electrical cabinet that I want to turn into a vertical cabinet smoker. How would you advise me to go about it. Put shelves a fire basket and a smoke stack in it and call it good. Or what else would you suggest?https://i.imgur.com/FHMxpvQ.jpg

Excellent idea! I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees objects and wonders whether it'd make a good smoker!

I would recommend an intake vent near the bottom, maybe on the side of the cabinet, for airflow in to feed the fire. If you can make it adjustable, it may help to control temperature.

Also a solid bottom shelf above the fire to act as a heat deflector, but make it an inch or two less than the width and depth of the box so that the heat/smoke can go around it up to the meat.

I'm (mostly) past it now- but a few years ago EVERYTHING looked like a potential smoker- whether it was practical or not. :-D

Not sure your intentions, but I'd rig it to run splits. If you set out to run it on charcoal only, you might find sealing it up air tight to be more trouble than it's worth.

The deflector plate is pretty much a must. If you don't like the taste smoke from fat burning on steel, you may consider putting in a dedicated shelf above the deflector to hold a water pan.

good luck
