Its finally here, looks like its come with only 1 food probe & 1 pit probe. They have it on BBQ GURU site ready to order. Hoping the new cloud arrives with my new DSS GC28. I will have to order some more food probes if deep DSS was able to order me the new Cloud.

I have been a Guru fan since I bought my first one 10 years ago. The first generation of CyberQ was difficult to set up for the average person so I'm liking what I see so far with this new version.

That was my dilemma as well..but the convenience of not having to go out to the smoker to check on things and being able to do it from my phone won out in the end.

I have a CyberQ and love it. Couple of questions.

1) Can you buy just the unit itself (assuming fan, mount, probes, etc are same)
2) For those who have owned CyberQ, is it worth the upgrade?
3) Now I'm wondering if I could just upgrade my firmware?

I only have one question, does this unit have the updated wifi chip? I heard the old unit was only 2.4ghz.

I did find out that my first gen Cyber Q can't be upgraded to new firmware :(

I received a new CyberQ Cloud in the mail today. I had an original 2012 CyberQ Wifi that failed during the first year and BBQ Guru replaced it under warranty. Then, I dropped the replacement one about a year or two later and messed up the innards, so I bought a new one. Now I just wanted a backup unit because I'm old and lazy and really can't BBQ very well. So, I opted for a special price on the Cloud unit as a repeat clumsy customer. Yay BBQGuru.

No, it is not 5Ghz. http://kb.bbqguru.com/help/cyberq-cloud-wi-fi-features
In fact, it appears to have the same Wi-fi chip as the 2nd generation models from what I see: http://www.wi-fi.org/product-finder-results?keywords=WFA16869 Note the year 2012 date. My first unit that failed was 802.11b only http://www.wi-fi.org/content/search-page?keys=WFA7150.

Yes, it uses the same probes and power supply as the old one. It'll look the same to current owners with a new ability of scanning to find networks, rather than manually entering the SSID. That will make setting it up easier for users as they won't have to type in the long wifi network name accurately. To me, it's just as hard to get the network chosen as before since it was unclear at first as to what to do next after you chose your correct wifi network. You can avoid scanning and just enter your SSID after clearing out the one that's already in there. Glad that I was on ARPANET at one time.

The new unit apparently has the ability to update its own firmware. No more TFTP and puts. Nice. It is turned off by default.

Bigdawg,

THx a ton. Tell me more about the "special price for a repeat clumsy repeat owner". I haven't called them yet. I have a gen 1 that got wet, I dried out. Got working. Then I changed my router and spent quite a bit of time reconfiguring. Working again.

I use Pit Pal App. I also have Alexa. Is the new Cloud / web app better? I'm close to pulling trigger, but need to try to justify upgrade. If I can buy just unit, that would help

I haven't seen many reviews for the CyberQ Cloud online. Can any of you with one provide some feedback on the new features? I'm particularly interested in how easy it is to set up for remote monitoring/control. Do you still have to mess with port forwarding?

I replaced my Gen 1 Guru Wifi with the new Cloud. It was very easy to set up. Haven't tried the Amazon Alexa skill yet. The online sharemycook.com takes some getting used to vs my old app, but seems to track and stay connected much better than Pit Pal app
