Grabbed this bad boy for $30 yesterday. I'm planning to move soon so really shouldn't be adding more stuff to move but at that price I couldn't pass it up.

I hit the grate with the wire wheel on the power drill and I don't even think I'm gonna replace the grate right now. It's not mint, by any stretch, but it's good enough until I find a good deal on a new grate.

My wife told me to. I asked her if I should buy a new grill and she said for that price absolutely.

The guy who was selling it said they're moving and his wife wouldn't let him take it and made him switch to propane. He didn't seem too enthused about that. My wife said she knows she'd lose that battle; I told her she'd be foolish to try.

Nothing against propane, but I would never not own a kettle. Now I've got 2.

Good get. For that rusty grill grate. Take it and soak it in vonegar overnight. Then oil it up and put it in your oven at 300 degrees for 2 hours. It will come out seasoned like cast iron.

If the grate is bent a little heat it up on the grill put it on a flat piece of plywood on some concrete and flaten it back out with rubber mallet. Then do the vinigar bath and season. It will be good as new.

To round it out, weber has a Spacer or Extension to go in between lid and body, also comes with a rotisserie. Or make one like I did using a 55 gallon steel barrel.

How come I don't see deals like that on Craigslist out here in East Texas?

Thanks for the tips! IT does have a bit of a dip in the center. I got the bulk of the rust off with the wire wheel brush, but I could still give it the vinegar bath and season.

I'll try out the heat and flatten trick for sure.

I actually already have the rotisserie ring for my other kettle, so I'm good.

Now I can have the rotisserie going on one, and grill veggies, etc on the other :)

Haha...you just have to keep looking and get lucky.

I have probably searched "Weber" and "BBQ" on Craigslist 500 times in the last 3 years. This is only the 2nd time I've ever bought anything (grabbed a fixxer upper stick burner a couple years back).

Saturday morning was probably the first time I had been on Craigslist in months. Like I said, we're planning a move so shouldn't be buying new stuff. But the wife was out garage saling and the kid was sleeping in so I was just putzing around and happened to catch this the day it was listed. There are great deals to be had, but you have to get lucky more than anything. If I didn't buy this thing I'm sure it would have been gone in a day or two to somebody else.

I've had to stop watching Craigslist. I'm running out of room! Great score for the OP and I'm sure I would have bought it at that price even though I have various 22" kettle models. ;)

Congrats man!!!

Yours looks pretty good inside, but one of those cheap razor scrapers does work pretty well on the inside of these things. It helped mine a lot!

I think I mentioned it in one of my other posts. He was moving and his wife told him he had to ditch it, they were getting a propane grill at their new place. He didn't seem too thrilled with the idea.

My wife astutely observed, "I would lose that battle." Of course I told her she'd be foolish to even try.

Of course, realistically, I don't know if the guy had a Brethren skills on the kettle. I've been to plenty of people's places that they should have stuck to a gas grill because the food coming off of their kettle was charred, or tasted like lighter fluid, or tasted like an ash tray, etc. Perhaps she was making him ditch the kettle because he couldn't actually produce edible food on it...I have no idea. But I wouldn't expect somebody like that to have invested in a Performer either.

All I know is, I will be the one reaping the benefits :)
