Hard to source locally and can't really decide via the Amazon options what I want to go with. Amazon offers free shipping on most so that is typically where I go.

Another vote for fruita, ordered from them several times now and have seen nothing but top quality wood chunks. Waiting on a good size order of poast oak and hickory right now as a matter of fact!

Fruitawoods is great but in my experience Baxter's Originals wood is a little better. Overall they are both fantastic

Academy Sports
Fruita Wood
Vaughn Wood

All great sources of wood. If you have an Academy in your area that's probably the easiest bet

as someone that spends every day looking at craigslist for wood deals, you cant beat the price for someone local vs online store to buy wood. the price is no comparison.

I'm a little surprised at you guys -now - Spring is the time to see all your flowering cherries, Bradford Pears, apple, etc... and around here, cars run into these trees all the time. Chainsaw, will travel. Have a friend w/ Pecan and Plum.
I have so much smoke wood I'm not worried... I cut and split my own.

I used to be in the five boroughs and it was tough finding decent wood at any price even on CL. Thought Long Island would be better but its the same. Usually its oak or maple. But if I want to get good fruit woods for smoking I think im better off getting them online.

If you have any good sources in NYC or Long Island Id be more than happy to get locally

I've got friends in the city that don't even own cars... you think they own a chainsaw?

Not everyone that Smokes meat is a slack jawed hillbilly living in the middle of no where with fruit trees all around them. Well I am, but I said not everyone :-D

I get bags off Amazon or Walmart for $5-7 a bag shipped. Just got some pecan from Amazon for $4.88 I think it was. The price seems to fluctuate though like on Amazon right now hickory is over $10 but I got a bag a few weeks ago for just over $5. I just add them to my cart when I see them for cheap.

I was amazed when they started selling bottled water...

Well pard, I have oak trees out my arse on my 40 acres, but no peach or mulberry. A 50 lb. box lasts me a long time.

I haven't ordered in many years, but I used to supplement my local supply of fruit wood with chunks from Do It Best ( https://www.doitbest.com/search/wood%20chunks? ).

Find a local participating hardware store, then place your order, select your store, and have shipped to your local hardware store for free. Take your receipt to the store and pick up your product.

No shipping costs, and easy peasy....

Almost any local orchard will gladly give you their winter cuttings for free if you remove them in a timely manner. They cut bad trees in the winter to prevent spread of fruit tree illnesses before spring starts.
