This was my fault, I was using a low piece of wood to shorten the distance to the one being split. The piece that broke holds that support pin underneath.

Anyways I was thinking of trying my "non welding" skills out tomorrow on it. Any thoughts on if it will weld... I'm using the cheap Chinese Chicago Electric 90 amp tig.

That piece looks like cast....you may have to heat before you can even try welding it. Good Luck!

Looks like cast iron to me. I know nothing of tig welding. Suggest a stick welder with the proper rod.

Cast Chinese steel and a HF Chinese flux core welder; just mak sure you use a Chinese torch to preheat and you should be good to go :becky:

E-309.... which is used to weld Carbon to stainless or a nicke rod.... I've had success with both.... all cast is not the same.... sometimes it hit and miss.... I've done it several times
They also make a cast rod.... 309 will surprise you.....

If you can get the piece off get your oven rocket hot first. Preheat both pieces with the torch and then weld. After welding put in the oven and slowly drop the temp.

I have never welded cast iron, or claim to be a good or knowledgeable welder. I only have ever used a wire welder. But, I have heard it from people that know what they are doing that this is needed to make a good weld and for it not to crack.

Yea this cheap CI sure didn't want to weld. Better than nothing, It should hold unless I'm a ding dong and put direct pressure right on it again.

Ah yes, the delicate aroma of Cellulose Acetate Butyrate degrading into Butyric acid.
