Hey fam,

I've got two boneless pork butts going on the UDS this weekend. Do I need to tie them up before smoking?

People say they tie and others say they don't tie. What is the benefit of tying it up? What will happen if I don't?

You don't need to tie them, however I think there are more benefits to tying than not tying. But that's my personal opinion.

You can tie tightly or use roast netting to keep the cooking more uniform and prevent the loss of moisture.

I would tie boneless.Season first, then tie.It will help with even cooking,as said above

I've tied and not tied. If you like a lot of bark, the not tying gives you more surface area. It might not be as moist-but that's fixable with a tad more drippings or broth.
