View Full Version : We built a new bbq patio (before and after). So excited!

I've never been so excited about a slab of concrete...which admittedly is low bar, but still!

When we moved into this house, we had absolutely no patio space so we built a little patio with a pergola. It was nice, but it was probably too small the day we finished building it. (I don't have to explain the "cooker addiction" problem to this crew, I hope.) I'm hoping with this I won't have to keep any of the grills in the garage anymore.

Nice add-on. Im itching to expand our patio and build a new outdoor living space. I need a permanent place to put this new 1700 pound beast I got that isn't out in my drive way.

That was a really cool vid! Where's the pool? Enjoy the extra space. Happy New Year! Edit: Rewatched and seen the pool left of the original patio

If you don't mind me asking, what's a project like this cost in the Dallas area?

I like it!
Jack, my 12x31 slab was $1,500. Not sure if that helps. I'm interested in hearing what maniac''s cost in his area.

Nice!

I did the same thing a few years ago. It's awesome to have a nice place for the cookers. Are you going to put a roof over the new pad?

Might regret the textured surface should you have any grease spills, drops, etc.

Sorry for the late reply. My notifications starting going in my SPAM folder for some reason.

I'm probably not going to cover it...at least not permanently because there is a road behind my fence and the city has restrictions that feel a little ridiculous, but they are what they are. I may do something of a temporary nature, but haven't really looked into it yet.

Yep, it's the opposite direction of where we built this. What's cool is the whole patio is the same pool decking so it looks like it was all done at the same time...or at least it will when the new stuff gets dirty. lol.

JacksBBQ and Paul,

This was $3500. 400 sf. This was slightly more involved than it looked as they needed to built a retaining wall and bring in a lot of fill dirt. Also, there is a pool deck texture and spray coating over the top which seals and colors it but also makes it where it doesn't get hot in the summer or slippery when wet. If we would have skipped that last part it would have been around $2K. Not cheap, but we figure in the long run we'll be glad we have the extra space.

To be honest, I pretty much sold my Komodo Kamado and bought a patio. That wasn't the plan but that was how it worked out.

No, unfortunately the city's rules and the orientation of my yard are too limiting for it to be cost effective.

Yeah, but this is robust, relatively smooth (for wheeling stuff around), easy to touch up, and a great pool deck surface because it doesn't get hot or slippery.

Plus, my wife wanted it to match what we already had.

it's all trade off though.

I had a "BBQ" patio poured last year. I had a sealer put on the concrete which prevents permanent grease spots, etc. Has worked like a charm so far.

Very familiar with "cool deck" coatings, been living in AZ for 30 years. :biggrin1:

Yep, I forgot to mention that above. The paint coat we used is supposed to help with that too.

You know that actually did not enter my thinking until about 10 seconds after the concrete dried. Then I was like "Holy crap, I've got an idea..."

Nice! I don't know how I missed this. I started planning a BBQ patio last spring. If my plans stop changing every 3-5 days, I might actually start building it this spring. I also have a no permanent roof issue due to zoning, but I think I can get away with carts with roofs as long as they are on wheels and theoretically movable.
