I've noticed in WV that stores that sell the point and flat separately the cost is $6+/lb. Find whole briskets its much cheaper. I just got a whole brisket today, which was the most expensive I've ever paid was $3/lb

There are many places in the metro Detroit area you can get Choice brisket for a heck of a lot less than $6.99/lb. Costco sells Prime for $3.99-$4.50/lb; Restaurant Deport sells Choice and Superior Angus for $2.63-$2.73/lb AND if you check the Eastern Market you can find it for similar prices.

Eastern market is a good idea, I am down there a lot. You need a business license to shop at Restaurant Depot, right? And I have a sam's membership, 6 a pound for flat there. I had someone check the costco local to me also, same story. I have a friend who is an executive chef at a local fine dining restaurant and even his costs are brutal. (although better than this)

Perhaps you should join KCBS, then you can get access to Restaurant Depot. I guarantee the prices will be at least half that

I am still learning. I was not aware you could join if you were a KCBS member. Thanks for the info!

GFS Market Place has pretty good prices as well. I paid under $3 for the whole brisket not long ago.

Going to check on my way home. I am forced to stay home for the holiday weekend due to a friends wedding so I need to treat myself somehow. Thanks!

Thats about what they charge for flats in my neck of the woods. The whole packers about half that per pound, when I can find them.

You don't really become a member of Restaurant Depot. Each time you go just stop at the front counter, show your membership card and ID, and they will give you a day pass.

I bought a prime packer at the Livonia Costco a week ago for $2.99/lb. That's the main reason I joined Costco again.

The one I grabbed from GFS didnt look the best but I have 0 experience at picking out brisket.. Was about 15.5 pounds and I can tell Ill lose some of that to hard fat. Once I use this up I may make a costco trip. On a side note I will be working on my 007 this weekend :)

There are two Restaurant Depot's (RD) in the Detroit area. If you join KCBS for I believe $35 per year, you can go to the Discounts tab on their members page and download an image that is a one day pass to RD. Show this at the counter and you can go in a shop to your wallet's discontent. You can do this as often as you like, just need to print out a new pass each time.

Word of advice, dress warmly. The meat section is a huge walk in freezer warehouse.

I would agree to the other brethren to buy whole packers. Trimmed always runs higher.

You can also get a membership with any business license, doesn't need to be food related.

JRog, I've only cooked a couple briskets, but the last one was from GFS. I fed 7 families at a neighborhood cookout with it, and NOBODY complained at all. I think it's typically choice rather than prime, but I think you are going to be happy with it. What other cut are you going to get for that price?

I buy brisket at GFS all the time. They are choice and usually around$2.50/lb. If the ones on display don't suit your fancy, ask if they have anymore in the back, it never hurts to ask.
