Thawing out a leg of lamb and decided I'm going to split it and do half ground lamb gyro meat and half sliced up and layered. If you have a good gyro recipe please post it here! I've done the serious eats one before but would like to see what the brethren has. Hopefully one of the Aussies see this. A killer tzatziki sauce would be a nice bonus as well.

Thanks!

I have done Alton Browns recipe before. It turned out okay for my first one. After that I have experimented with the ingredients a bit, but this was a good starting point.

I used the Alton Brown recipe 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The tzatziki was spot on for me but I would take down the amount of rosemary in the meat mix by half next time.

Mine is a little more simple than most of the others, but I think it's a pretty good interpretation of gyro meat.

2 lbs ground lamb
2 lbs ground chuck
Handful of chopped fresh oregano
Half of lemon, juiced
4 tsp salt
4 cloves garlic, minced
Few grinds of pepper

Mix like sausage so it has a dense slicable texture when done
