View Full Version : Little lunch for the concrete guys

Been pretty busy with the other half and have a bunch of projects going on so I haven't had a lot of time to smoke things.

I have managed to do at least a pork loin per week and divvie it up for sandwiches for the week. I'm putting up a 35X45 steel building and the concrete guys doing the slab and anchor bolts have had a bear of a time.

Had issues with the local crete delivery guys delivering stiff concrete. I've been feeding them everyday obviously but with the extra hard work they're having to do I wanted to make them a really nice lunch. Busting out 5,000 psi fiber/rebar reenforced concrete is not pretty and is no easy task. One of them almost dropped from heat stroke yesterday.

So, I'm cooking up a loin and am going to go get fresh rolls and some potato and macaroni salads for them today.

Should be a nice lunch for them.

Thanks. I made a hard living in very high heat so I appreciate when guys even if in blazing heat take the time to make something completely right.

Plus it gives me a reason to fire up a smoker. Win win ;-)

very nice of you to treat the guys to some good bbq! concrete is not something you want to be doing this time of year. really hard work.

That is such an underestimated gesture. Some people ask why I'll take a day off and cook for the crew busting their humps doing a project for me, when they are "getting paid to do their job". It's because it's a great way to say thanks. The guys appreciate it, and even getting paid, people who don't do these jobs for a living have no idea how taxing it is on your body.

Very nice gesture on your part!

I used to help pour concrete too, I'm now able to have it hired. It is about the toughest construction job I've had.

I agree. The timing just worked out this way. Wish it would have been in the spring. Like you said, this isn't the optimal time of year to be doing this.

You are absolutely on point. The abuse these type of jobs put on one's body is huge.

Very nice gesture on your part!

Thank you,
Yeah I have done small things, like REAL small things with concrete. Extremely hard work.
Well done. You are going to make them so happy.

They definitely enjoyed it. There's only 3 of them so there are some leftovers but they were quite thankful. Felt good to put homemade grub in their bellies.

Nice way to say Thanks...

Thanks. I thought it would be a nice way to say I appreciated them.

Loin came out good. Guys each had a nice sandwich and then they all grabbed an extra slice on the way out the door.

Served it with some store made sales from a grocery that actually has decent ones and some sticky fingers Carolina and sweet sauces as well as some Chipotle mayo I make.

Lmao!! Yeah, probably because they had to do it 1 1/2 times because of the issues with the original pour.

Thanks. I try to keep people that do work for me well taken care of if possible.

My father-in-law referred to me as a "block head" once. Do I qualify as a cement guy?

Sure lol

You treat them very well.

I'd hope somebody would. I like to treat them like if they were my family and how I'd like them treated by others.

Thanks. Was a little dry but luckily after they ate. Didn't have quite the rest it should have but it was still juicy when they ate and is tasty even if not perfect now.

Stiff concrete due to the heat?

Thanks. I believe that as well.

Was in the trucks too long and they use a superplastisizer agent so you need less water but it makes it pasty from the get go. With the combination it was just hard for them to work with. Plus a couple of the drivers were let's say-- a bit dull.

I can relate. Good on you Boss!

Thanks toast. Appreciate it.
