I know 16 Adams is a CI expert and so are others. We have a few pieces and found a Griswold that was the MIL's packed away. Will bring it into full use right away.

The 8 on the handle is raised and I have not seen that before. The "Cast Iron Skillet" on the bottom is also slightly raised? Anybody seen this before?

I didn't dig to far into this site, http://www.griswoldcookware.com , they show logos and probably explain that somewhere. Can't have too much cast iron, nice find.

Third paragraph from the bottom. I've never seen a raised letter or number except on lids. I have had some that looked like your # that when cleaned was actually inscribed. The last skillet I refurbished the other day you would swear the cooking surface was chiseled. It was just decades of neglect and cleaned up great. Flat bottom/smooth cooking surface.

Trust me. I'm no expert I just MSU as I go. There are quite a few ways to tune up a cast iron piece. Let us know what you do and how it goes.
