Just got my first smoker, its a GMG Davy Crockett. I am looking for any recommendations for a first time, what to expect and what are must buys. I appreciate everyones input .

Wings work. But yeah a nice big pork butt is a very forgiving piece of meat that will allow you to mess with the unit as you go and get it figured out.

And yeah, please don't forget to cook a fatty.

Pork butts are always a good choice. Cheap and forgiving.

I use a Davy Crockett for my chicken cooks in comps, great little grill, easy to travel with, wifi option is awesome. Throw down some ribs, bacon, fattie, but for a first cook, try a spatchcocked chicken or a meatloaf. Doesn't much matter, it's all about practice. Big thing with the Davy Crockett, keep the fire pot cleaned out, it is tiny so it can fill up after a few cooks. Should run nice for you, that is one great starter cooker for sure.

Thanks for all the great information. My first cook will be boneless chicken thighs. I am open to any suggestions on how to cook them.
