I was using a temp gauge in vent to see what the temp was since Weber decided that a temp gauge opposite vent was sufficient. When I slow cook the Weber gauge gives me an accurate account of charcoal temp but not temp over food or on grate. I wanted a gauge to put under vent which allows me to use vent to adjust temps, not look for the gauge or gauge falling on the ground when lid is opened. The location I chose was closer to grate as well as opposite of coal so it should work to give me more accurate temps.
