View Full Version : How do you move your smoker?

I have a Humphrey's Pint and from time to time want to bring it with me on adventures. I have an F-150 and getting that thing in there isnt happening so I have hauled it on a trailer.

To trailer it, I laid it down on its back and strapped across it through the handles. No issues at all aside from the scuffs on the back from the cardboard and across it from the straps.

Wondering how others who cannot be without their smoker move theirs? Any ideas about the scuffs?

I did not use something between the Pint and straps the first time = scuffs. The second time I did and it still = scuffs.

Thing is too pretty for scars.

Get a hitch cargo carrier with a ramp. They usually have a 500 pound weight capacity, and work well for this sort of use.

Manhandle it, Sean. I tip mine into the back of the truck and slide it in on a couple old blankets. I did it myself last time, not sure if I want to do that again, but it can be done. Taking it out I phone a friend. With the angled legs you can muscle it up in there after grabbing the legs and lifting it in.

Didn't you get the add on slides for the back of the smoker?

i would think that those nylon strips screwed on the back of the smoker would keep the scuff marks to a minimum. if i ever need to load my 450LB cabinet into a truck that would be my plan. what about a come-along?

A piece of carpet works well, too.

I didn't get the nylon strips, though if I had to do it again, I would have. At 450lbs, not sure the back would like that getting into the truck or me having the smoker on top if the back says Nope halfway through the lift.

I have scuff remover stuff and extra paint from Humphrey's just in case.

Need to keep looking for easier alternatives. I think the truck bed mounted cherry picker is a little overkill for this, but I may get to that.

I was thinking of making it easy and putting in a winch mount at the front of the bed, then figure out how to pull it up into the bed as well as drop it, but if I have a friend handy, that's all it takes.

I have a bucket and a set of forks that I use to move my BGE's and Vault. I even have a designated driver.

How heavy is that pint? I get my backwoods G2 Chubby and G2 Party into my f150 with no problem. Just tilt them into the bed.

This. I didn't move a smoker, but a nice gun safe. Carpet is your friend.

Get some help.

Lift with your legs- you have 2 legs but only one back.

Seriously - bigger is not always better. If you suspect you are going to be transporting regularly why not buy 2 smaller somethings that you can move instead of one that will kick your keester? :-D

The Pint unloaded and without goodies is 350 but add many more racks and compound legs and 8inch Castors and I'm easily at or over 400.

Won't be moving it too much but sometimes would be nice. I can and have trailered it but that where the scuffs came from. All interesting ideas people have. I think I'll buy some moving blankets and go from there. Should work just fine.

I'm with you here. Also know your limitations. 10 years as a Marine did a toll on my framework. Heck I hit the floor one time just putting on my socks.
