I'm looking for the most portable grill/smoker I can buy that will allow me to smoke an 8 lb (or smaller) boston or a turkey breast. I would also like to be able to modify it to accept my Flame Boss controller.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

WSM 18.5" or 22" will do that with ease.

You could also take a look at the Little Red Box smoker. (don't know if Flame Boss will work with this unit)

WSM 14.5 or pickup a Smokey Joe and build you a mini.

Mini WSM but no need for a controller. It will fit a 10 lb butt, it's still a grill and will turn out some of the best pork butt you've ever had.

Here's a pic of when i used a controller but don't use it anymore.

Yup a mini is very portable and can be used as a grill or a smoker

A little bit more expensive, but the Kamado Joe Jr or the BGE Mini-Max can handle that load. Plus they are awesome grills.

Here is a 8 pounder on the Mini-Max.

If you want the ease of a pellet smoker/grill check the Traeger PTG.

If $$$ is no object, a 14.5 WSM would be my choice. I haven't used my mini since I got one.

The mini is a little easier to transport.

Thanks for all the ideas so far guys!

I'm not into pellet grills....they just don't produce the smoke flavor I like.

What if you were on a budget...what would your choice be?

Pit Barrel Cooker is nice and portable and is a set it and forget it type cooker. And with the hanging method you can do up to 8 racks of ribs if need be.

If I were looking to buy a smoker and get a good start, I would go with the WSM 22.5". If I were on a budget, I'd get the 18.5". It's hard to get a better start than a WSM.

I'm with Bob on this one. I take my barrel camping , tailgating , to the beach and occasionally over to friends houses who don't have a smoker. Very portable , but you can't use a control device with it or at least I've never tried.
