Hi Fwismoker
Starting my second mini ( first one was with 20" alum flashing and worked great)and have a few questions:
This next one will be a JJ with the ss pot
I think I want my top grill 5 1/2 down from the top so I can do a vert chicken.
There is 4 1/2 of room in the lid. This will give me 10" of room to stand a chicken up
How far from the heat should I put my heat deflector?
I see you put vents on the side of yours, how many and how did you place them?
Thanks
Enjoy you posts

I think I want my top grill 5 1/2 down from the top so I can do a vert chicken. You could put two grates in. Put one about 1 1/2" down and the other about 7" down. That way you'll have two grates for things and use the bottom grate if you want to stand up a bird.
There is 4 1/2 of room in the lid. This will give me 10" of room to stand a chicken up
How far from the heat should I put my heat deflector? I went 5" up from the bottom. The bolts hold a grate that is good to put a holy diffuser on or something to catch drippings.
I see you put vents on the side of yours, how many and how did you place them? Those were aftermarket Weber vents and actually I rarely use them. Mostly I use the bottom air and the ball valve. If I did put in more side air next time I'd probably go with a nipple and cap.
Thanks
Enjoy you posts Thanks! Mostly I spatchcock or spin birds vs standing them up. You should consider adding a roti ring from Cajun Bandit on it. It's a pretty sweet add on for sure.

One more ?
Do you have any problem getting the lower two grids out past the thermometer stem? I used a 2" TT on my first build and it worked OK but this seems a little more snug
Thanks

Once you know what your grate temps are, just keeping a temp in the lid works and knowing the temp difference is a lot easier. Simple oven thermometer to check grate temps.
Just a thought.

Thanks No...No problems at all, just angles past it and drops in place.
