i have a uds with 2 racks and a weber kettle lid. I was wanting to put a thermometer on it somewhere. I have read a lot of posts, but 830+ pages is hard to find info with all the opinions. just wondering how much difference would it see like on the side beneath 2nd rack or on the kettle lid. is it that much of a difference to matter?
the thermometer would be one of the through the wall 2" probe. didn't know if it would interfere with my charcoal basket also.

I put mine between the two racks. Figured that was the most logical place to get an average reading.

I put mine between the 2 grates also. The center can be 50* Hotter if not running a Difusser or water pan and only 20-25* Hotter with them.

I ran two on my original drum, just under both racks.

On my new drum, I run one Maverick on one rack but can run both probes through the same hole if I want to use two racks.

Running one rack- use a 12 turkey thermo 1" below the rack. The tip hits pretty dead nuts in the center of the grate . I use a male and female 1/4" pneu fitting nutted together thru the wall. Keeps the long prob running straight. I pull the thermo when adding or pulling the basket. it works well and has for years.
