A buddy of mine was given (!) a Treager pellet grill by someone with no time to fix it. He asked me to see if I sould get it running.

It came with 2 controllers (bad as it turns out). I had to replace the heating element, controller and the RTD - basically everything except the screw feeder motor and the blower motor.

I got everything back together and fired it up (sorry no pics...). I have never seen one of these in operation. It seems to work very well & seems to be sturdy. Is it normal to have flames in the firepot when in "cook" mode?

I really need to try it out before I get it back to him, but the only pellets I have are alder. OK to use on pork?

It was a fun project - I wish someone would give me one!

Yes it is usual to see flames in the firebox while its operating, never used alder so can't comment on that. Nice job getting it up and running

Adler will work fine.

Older Treagers are solid cookers , alder is fine I personally only use mequite pellets for everything , I don't think there is a discernible flavor difference between the different wood flavors

My fav pellets are Hickory, but fire it up and burn some meat! Post some pics :)

I had a Traeger a couple years ago, had a blast cooking on it.
