I'm in the market for a bigger smoker with the primary focus on being able to cook pretty big hogs 140 pounds+. I would also like it to be pretty nicely insulated since I live in New England. Lastly I want a cooker with good airflow. Some of the models I've looked at are the Lang 60&84, the mms 72&72xc, and I've been reading that Shirley can make just about anything. Are there any smokers other than those that I need to consider? And will the people with those big smokers that I mentioned give me feedback on airflow, fuel efficiency, etc. Thanks in advance!

Lang is good, but went up on their prices....not sure what your budget will be. Stumps has a hog cooker that's nice. Don't own one myself, but a friend owns one and I watched him cook on it.

Depending on what kind of pig cooking you want to do.

The La Caja China line is a great roaster.

The Meadowcreek PR lineup are great direct cookers for a more traditional NC style

Shirley's are the best offsets on the planet. (extremely biased opinion as I'm picking one up in 10 days)

Stick burners and fuel efficiency don't mix. pick the largest one you can afford. Buy a good chainsaw. Remember with whole hog, grease handling is very important.

Cooking a whole hog renders a lot of fat.....the results can turn out bad over a direct fire

Humphries is making a hog cooker now as well.

I wouldn't go with a rack size under 28" deep. We looked hard at a Meadow Creek PR series but 24" leaves you stuck with racer style.\

example. 130lb hog with its legs cut down butterflied on a 60x28" rack for a cinder block pit.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. The backwoods whole hog cooker looks pretty cool. I like the idea of a stick burner.

the best hog cooker I've seen is the "Virginia spinner" I'm going to clone that baby.
