Of not eating the right food on New Year's Day? Black eyed peas, greens, cornbread, and pork. It's the right thing to do. 1500 year old tradition not to be messed with.

It's a Southern thing. You wouldn't understand. BTW that's for split green peas not black eye peas.

I'm missing mine right now since I'm working but the double time and a half is hard to pass up. Everyone is at my Mom's eating black eyed peas topped with stewed tomatoes and chopped onions, fried cabbage cooked in a cast iron skillet with bacon and her super thin lace cornbread. The wife has her orders to keep me a plate for late tonight when I get home. Happy New Year everyone.

My wife's family from San Antonio always had tamales as their traditional New Year's Eve dinner. I never had one growing up in Utah.

No BBQ today. Out mom is making Chile Colorado (Hot !), rice, homemade flour tortillas some left over menudo and someone will bring over some tamales. My wife's family used to make tamales every New Year's Eve but the abuelitas are getting up there in age and it's a lot of work so the younger set just buys them. They're sold year 'round here all over the place so no issues ever getting awesome tamales.

Whatever it is your enjoying today, celebrate and have a Happy New Year !

I'm from Mobile AL- momma raised me right- my table will have all the southern traditional New Years Day fare to insure good luck. I'm not overly superstitious- I could eat that every day

I'm having Hoppin' John with blackeyed peas, ham, collard greens and cornbread. Same thing I make every New Years Day.
I think it works, I feel pretty lucky and rich! :becky:

20 oz. T-bone with baked potato, corn & black-eyed peas.

Supposed to put a silver dime in the peas so whoever gets
it their serving will have extra good luck.

My MIL always does pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatos.

They went to their cabin this year, so the wife stepped up and made it.

Black-eyed peas, greens, sweet potatoes and cornbread here. The greens got my homemade loin bacon and the beans got homemade belly bacon.

In case there wasn't enough pork, I added a pork sirloin roast for good measure.

My six year old got down on all 4's to show her sister where the belley, loin, and sirloin was on a pig--and she even got it mostly right
