I'm at a stand still trying to decide between the Humpreys BattleBox and a Assassin grill.

I love the versatility of the assassin it can cook ribs chicken burgers and be used for longer cooks. And I love the price

But I keep getting drawn in by the battle box cause I can set it and forget it type mentality.

This cooker will mostly be for cooking ribs and chicken, but if I ever do a comp, will the assassin be enough for the longer cooks on the big meats

What are you guys opinions thanks Kevin

If you currently have something that can grill I say go for the BB. If you need something to do it all in one then the assassin might be the better option. I know guys use the BB for comps but the assassin is so new that I don't know if anyone does comps with them. I know the assassin can be extended if that helps.

You don't want a a grill for competitions (yes some do it, but mostly just for chicken). In your situation I'd get the humphreys and a 22 weber kettle. That battle box should be able to handle the big meats and ribs too, then chicken on the kettle.

I vote for Humphreys, but don't listen to me... I own the Pint and have NO experience with the assassin. Good luck with your decision.

I don't have either but have looked very hard at both. For chicken I like to use my Kettel, for Ribs I like to use the WSM. So for chicken the Assassin, for ribs the Humpreys. I think you could hookup an ATC on the Assassin for set it and forget it if you wanted to.

I'm thinking I will go with the assassin mainly to cook ribs I have a BGE for most things. But I still really like the Humpreys. Very tough decision but mainly want multibile ribs and for the money I'm leaning assassin

Just my opinion, but I think you will get more use out of an Assassin.

It really depends on what is important to you and what you need most. Since you already have BGE then you prob can cook big meats with long cook time in it (albeit not much space probably) then maybe for ribs, the assassin is the best option for you. But if you're looking to do long cooks (couple of butts, briskets, etc.), I would think the BB with the set it and forget it might be best. I dont have both so I dont know how they cook - just offering opinion and thoughts to help out.

I would chose the assassin. I'm gonna start talking my wife into letting me get one. Just wish there was videos on youtube of them in use.

Did you know if get a Humphrey's with a drop in water pan, you can remove the water pan and put a rack in that location and grill! It turns the Reverse flow into a direct vent! This gives you the best of both worlds. low and slow and hot and fast.
