View Full Version : I want to covert my custom la caja china to propane. Any thoughts?

I build a custom La Caja China and want to convert it to propane to regulate the heat better than using charcoal.

I was thinking of using 2 turkey fryer burners, turned upside down so the flame hits the heating plate. I would space the burners equally on the top of the roaster.

Maybe even build a metal box around the burners, which would be the same size as the heating plate. This might make the heat from the burners bounce back downward.

To me this sounds workable, but maybe I am missing something?

I do have a few youtube videos of this custom roaster. Search Rod J to view them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tejas make cast iron pipe burners, you might want to look at those: http://www.tejassmokers.com/castironburners.htm#Custom_Pipe_Burners
