There's a whole thread on HOW we are cooking turkey but I'm curious what KIND of turkey are you preparing? Fresh? Frozen? Organic or not? Natural? Kosher? Self basting?...favorite brand?..any you would stay away from?

Caged up and pissed off :-D.

I'm actually not that picky. I buy all the cheap frozen ones that are on sale after thanksgiving. The fresh birds I've cooked did seem a little better, but I was drinking more there so too many variables for a scientific result.

I usually just get the frozen ones on sale.

I've tried the "fresh" and found out that the only difference between "fresh" and "frozen" is a few degrees. It can still be frozen, but just not AS frozen and it's marketed as fresh (and marked up).

Granted there are the truly fresh raised ones, but I don't have the money to blow on those.

My favorite would be home grown but if I get the time I'm hoping to nab a wild bird this year.

Usually for Thanksgiving I get a locally raised natural turkey. And other time of the year I'm a price shopper.

We get a fresh heritage turkey every year. Hard to beat.

That's what I was wondering... If HoKa was worth it?

The one I shoot! And when I don't get one then I get a fresh one from Foster Farms.

I used to buy fresh, but years ago when prices went through the roof on fresh birds, I switched to frozen.

I get three frozen Butterball birds for Thanksgiving (1 smoked, 1 deep-fried, and one in the "Big Easy"). The day after I buy four on clearance discount to use throughout the year.

I inject and deep fry all my turkeys anymore. I've tried the fresh and the naturals and could not tell any difference between those and the cheap frozen birds. Now I look for the best price frozen ones.
