I went to my local Publix today to pick up some spare ribs. All they had in the display area was pre-packaged St Louis cut ribs at $5.99/lb.
I asked the butchers if they had any spare ribs in the meat locker and was told they don't carry spares any more.
Anyone else running into this?

I've been running into this in western WI. It looks like I will need to get in touch with a local butcher. I'd like to know what they are doing with them. They were plentiful up until the end of June this year.

Lots of folks are so in to the idea that competition BBQ is the best, they are requesting St. Louis cut ribs. Butchers don't want to carry what isn't selling. So they're ordering St. Louis cuts now. Market demand. The tips end up in the Asian, Chicago and Mexican markets.

How can you be in the deep south and not stock spare ribs?

I reckon since they figured out how much mark-up there was in selling brisket flats that they could fill their coffers even faster charging ya more for selling ya less ribs too. I always hated that overpriced yuppie store when I lived in Fl. Best start shoppin the Piggly Wiggley & WinnDIxie

Yup....time to take them off the list. You should have plenty of other options for spare ribs where you are.....

I should have clarified myself. They are selling St. Louis "style" spares here which is the waste area of the St. Louis cut. Hard to find good spares here.
