I was originally going to cook for 35 men... Now it is up to 100... How many 8 pounds butts do you think it will take... Now... These are grown men.... My church is footing the bill... Just do not want to be shy... How many pounds of baked beans also.... They need a rough tally tonite as far as money...

Give me your thoughts... Use.... 1.89$$ as far as cost per pound for butts.. I am sure i can get them cheaper..... I do not care if i go over on the meat... But do not want to be short...

8 is more than enough. I get non enhanced so the yield is a little bit higher. I'm sure y'all are having plenty of sides but what about other entrees?

Only 1 entree than maybe 10 butts.

Grown men,.. I'd do 9. I know I can eat more than a 1/4 lb. serving. I would want to be around 70 lbs raw weight. Just to be on the safe side.

And at 1.89, I get 136.08 for the butts. And, maybe 3 of the BIG cans of beans... not sure on that one... 3 cans feels right though.

EDIT:

(beans) 3 of these..... http://www.walmart.com/ip/21560291?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227017579632&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40889591192&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=78819176792&veh=sem

If you figure 1/3 lb servings you'll need approx. 34 lbs of cooked pork. Most of us use 50% yield, so that's 68 lbs raw, or 8 1/2 8 lb. butts. I'd cook 9 or maybe 10 since I hate not having enough :-D

Beans I figure 18 lbs.

I would go 1/3 pound per serving (you said grown men) x 100 = 34 pounds for cooked meat = 68 pounds of raw meat. I add 10 percent to be sure so I would go with 39 pounds cooked and 78 pounds raw. Sounds like 10 butts. This is what I'd do, especially if this is the only protein.

As far as the beans, I would go with a 5 ounce serving (going with the grown men and only side idea) = 500 ounces of beans. Just my .02

I use the 1 lb of raw protein per adult formula for self service and 10 oz per for controlled portions net is 8 & 5 oz; 1/2 & 1/3 lb portions

Just to be safe i am going to do 12butts .... Then beans i will look at all of your answers... I put hamburger meat bell pepper... And onion in my beans so that will make the beans go further... Was thinking of doing 4 full size restaurant pans of smoked mac and cheese...

As far as a cooker goes... I am going to have to borrow one of my customers..... Aint that pitiful....

It seems that grown men with a meal paid for might eat more than normal. I might calculate based on 8 oz. per man. Extra will always find someone waiting. 1/2 per man. 50 cooked total. 100 raw. 12 butts. Just my 2 cents.

I've always done this math when smokin' for a big group:

# of People x 0.33 lbs/person = Cooked Weight Needed
Cooked Weight Needed x 2 (assuming 50% yield) = Raw Weight needed

So in your case: 100 men x 0.33 lbs/person = 33lbs cooked meat x 2 = 66lbs raw meat needed.

66lbs raw meat / 8lbs butts = 8.25 butts so the recommendations above of 8-9 butts is spot-on.

I figure beans by the #10 can, you need 5 #10 cans of beans to serve 100. That will give you 100 1/2 cup servings. That should be plenty with your add ins.

Your meat is spot on. I came up with 10 butts.

I would bump to 6 pans of mac-n-cheese

What about rub? Vinegar sauce to mix in after pulling? BBQ sauce on the side? Dunno what route you're going. Buns? Those cheap little white buns and you'll have guys getting seconds.

Since you said church, I'm assuming they have hotel pans and silverware and plates all covered.

I would do Ten butts, cause the guys in our Men's group can put it down. Also, look at the size of your plates, too big and they load up and end up throwing away. I like the three compartment 8 1/2 plates, as most people like to play within the lines and it makes the food go further.

Also, I just picked up a case of bone in butts for 1.15 lb at Sams club.
