View Full Version : cook #6 pork butt on new smoker

Good morning all and happy Labor Day!

I have thread in place with pictures of my new Oklahoma Joe. I am in the middle of my first cook with it, and it is an amazing difference.

The Supertarget special I was using before took almost constant fiddling to manage the fire and produce light smoke, but so far my OK Joe is sailing along almost on autopilot.

I have a five pound Pork Butt in there, and about an hour ago I threw in a nice chicken breast with some rub on it as an experiment.

I am using a combination of Hickory, Apple and Pecan and it smells wonderful.

The pit really makes a difference. The Supertarget special was so difficult to regulate the heat, and getting clear to 205 was almost impossible. This pork was so tender and delicious, all we could do was pull it....
