Here is the thread I started when I began making this about a month ago.
http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3328863&postcount=1

I have since gotten it pretty much done with the exception of the quartz composite top which will sit about 9/16" above the aluminum diamond plate. The gas assist works great and I can't wait to use it. I have a friend in the powder coating business so I went with gloss black.

This has been a fun project. I wish I could do curves in steel so this wasn't so recti-linear (is that a word?) but I was challenged doing most of this one-handed due to shoulder surgery.

The first picture shows the gas assist

I'd like to see what you could do when you're 100% recovered from the surgery. Kudos on a NICE build.

Looks awesome, but what's the gas assist for? Seriously, I would love one of those, just curious.

The gas assist is for lighting a chimney.

The top will be a piece of 3/4" Marine plywood topped with 13/16" Quartz composite (Silestone) left over from our kitchen remodel.

That thing is fantastic Marty! I've always wanted a bigger kettle on my performer, or two kettles. Kudos for getting it done, and well!

Same deal with me. I love the 26 because of its size and heat zones. I have a 22 performer but have always wanted more.

That is a great solution. Since I am a woodworker (primarily), I understand the horrific impact of wood when exposed to the elements. That is why I went with steel even though my material of choice was wood.

Marty, As you know, I checked out your awesome woodworking skills but didn't know about the metal working side of you. Having dabbled a bit in both I can appreciate your perfectionism for 90 angles... :) Great forethought, design and great job!!!!!!

Marty,

I have followed your cooks and projects for some time. I think you are one of the most open-minded cooks out there with your varied use of equipment. I am a die hard kettle guy and really enjoy this particular build. I would love to see how many ribeyes you could fit on the 26er for a reverse sear party!
