I just ordered the Lone Star Grillz insulated vertical smoker and it should arrive in a couple months. I will be ordering a DigiQ + 25CFM fan to control temps on the new pit.

While I am waiting for the LSG to arrive, could I use this setup on my Primo XL? I understand that 25CFM is more fan than is needed, but will there be any problems running such a big fan on a cooker this size?

You could probably get by with closing down the fan damper. I think it will work fine that way

I have an auber model 1615 and 25 cfm Fan and the Lsg. You really don't need it but on overnites it peace of mind I guess. I close ball valve down to about a 1/4 open and it does great. I think most time a smaller fan would work.

The slide in those fans can be closed all the way off...but the fan is overkill for a primo, try it is all you can do if your not stuck on 225 it might be perfectly fine

I've got the pit Viper (medium) fan for my Primo Jr. and I never have the aperture (damper/slider) open more than 1/3 for temps under 250. Maybe a smidgen more for 275 on a cold day. I don't use a pit controller for cooks over 275-300.

XL's can be bears getting up to temp, but once they settle are rock solid. My guess is you'll barely have the aperture open, but the bigger fan should be okay.

I have a Pro-Comm with a 25cfm fan and I've used it on my Backwoods Gater and Large BGE with no issues.

I have a Stumps Junior which looks to be of similar size and use a Pit Viper fan (recommended by both Stumps and BBQ Guru). It works great. Make sure the 25 cfm fan is not overkill (it costs more too).
