View Full Version : If you could just have one grill and one smoker

So i'm sure many of you have had, and currently have several grill's, BBQ's, smoker's. But if you had to just have 1 grill, and 1 smoker what would they be? Cost can't be an issue. I know many of us BBQ on what we can afford and many dont have 2-4K plus shipping for a BBQ/smoker. Let's say they are free. We are talking patio stuff, no trailer units. My choice would be a Weber performer, and a Lone star offset vertical.

I wouldn't give up my Humprey's even if something more expensive was offered for free.

As far as grills.... I love my Weber Kettle, but sometimes charcoal just takes too long in hurried situations. So I would choose a Weber S-470.

I feel the same way, almost... I want to upgrade my Humphrey's Weeble for a Down E Beast one day. I am happy with my Weber Genesis e310.

I'm very happy with my charbroil gasser and my Bell smoker. But, if everything was free, I would have a Shirley and some type of Weber grill.

My old home built horizontal woodburner. I love that thing!
If I didn't have it, I'd go for a Shirley cabinet model.

+! Just my wife and I or maybe a couple of others to cook for. Maybe not as fun having to put wood in the firebox every hour (ha ha ha ha...sorry) but makes pretty good BBQ and also is wonderful as a grill.

Also... no need to worry about rust and repainting, etc.

I'd love to say kettle and a custom offset, but my situation works best with two grills that can double as smokers.

An urban dweller with a too busy life needs the compactness, instant gratification and versatility of multiple grills more than the grill/smoker setup.

At some point I'll be able to slow down and enjoy life with more long cooks on a dedicated smoker. It's something to look forward to.

I am hoping that I will have that combo in 9 weeks when my Lone Star Grillz vertical insulated cooker shows up to sit next to my Primo XL Oval

I have a Weber Performer, I'm planning on replacing it with the Assassin Grill it should do everything from grill to smoke with a lot more room for indirect cooking. If money wasn't an issue it would be nice to also have Humphrey's Battle Box on a cart.

I'm going with a Primo for grilling and a Shirley for smoking. But to be honest, I love what I have right now.

For me money is less of an issue than time is...

Well you cant go wrong with a Weber kettle for a grill, but the smoker is a question that's hard to answer since there are so many different designs and manufactures.

Ouch! No fair! Foul! This is a different thread! You can't drag my ignorance from one thread over into another... there must be a ruling out there on this... Okay, well, maybe I walked into that. :moon::moon:

Assassin Grill stretched, I think would cover both. But if I get a smoker as well, then, I would get the LSG insulated vertical for my smoker.

I presently have a Primo XL and an old Cookshack that I'm attempting to rebuild.
Had one of the Memphis Pro's in the past, really liked it but couldn't get a proper sear on my meat. It was great for smoking and holding with the insulated cabinet design.

Great answer. This makes more sense than a lot of others. The absolute best investment these days is ammo and cash.

I would go with a Weber performer, and a Stumps vertical gravity fed insulated cabinet.

I would keep my custom 48" offset and Weber kettle. But if you made me get new items then a Jambo and a new Weber kettle. Or may be just repaint my 48" and tell you it's new.

Love my Horizon offset as it has a 24"X24" grill fire box. Have grilled a ton of stuff in there and very versatile if you're doing a long smoke but want to grill something up as well. No need to start a 2nd fire.

If I had to order today, would go with Horizon's 30"X60" pit as it has a 30"X30" grill firebox. That's a serious size smoker/grill in one. Wasn't a standard offering when I order my current pit 4 years ago but would jump all over it now. Why the hell not....

and a Weber Ranch.
