View Full Version : Coleman Roadtrip Cooktop Paint

I've had my road trip for about 3 years now. I use it for tailgating only, and honestly, I've never really taken care if it like I do my Webers, smokers, and other grills.

As you can see in the photo here, it's bad. I used a wire brush grinder attached to my drill to get some of the rust off thinking that it might look shiny again, but then I found out that the cooktop is Chrome plated steel, so the thoughts of having a clean looking surface again (without buying a new assembly) is moot.

So, I was wondering if once I get all the rust off, if I can paint the cooktop with some high-temp paint? Is it safe? They guy on Youtube who restored one used it on his burners, but I feel like that's potentially worse than painting the assembly because of the direct heat contact.

Any ideas about what to do with this cooktop? I could just spend the $50 to replace it, but I'd rather not considering I've spent so much money upgrading the tailgate setup this year already (added a Weber Jumbo Joe too).

Appreciate any ideas and input. Thanks!
