I couldn't find a previous post on seasoning a new 22" kettle. Any recommendations on breaking it in? I'm assuming the paint is cured, so we can go with a hot fire to start??

No seasoning required. Get to cooking. No bare metal to rust.

No seasoning required but I do like to run a small load of charcoal at full blast the first time around. Not needed but it makes me feel good.

My son with his new Weber. Having fun posing in a cheesy pic with his first grill. He's off to college next month. Working on honing in on a few cooking skills before he heads out on his own.

I'd let it burn 10-20m to let any residual oils from fabrication burn off before I put food in there, but that's about it.

I think the first time a coal falls through the grate the first skill he will learn around a hot grill is shoes! :-P

I wish him the best of luck in school and his new found grilling skills.

yeah you season it by grilling on it LOL. nothing more nothing less :)
Just fire it up and go.

I just got a new Kettle and it had a light coating of black grease on it. I wiped it down good and then burned it out with a half can of kingsford and a bit of cherry wood. From the smell during the burnout it was better off for it.

Weber coats the charcoal grate with mineral oil to prevent rust during shipping.

Just let it burn really hot for a while before you put food on.

NO NO NO Never use lighter fluid. Get a chimney and wax cubes by weber. No taste of fluid on food.

No lighter fluid involved. That was half a chimney (can) with a paper shopping bag for starter. I use to make chimneys out of large food cans.
