If you Google "Kingsford Lump " you'll get hits from 2005 where K had Argentine hardwood lump coals branded under their name. There are photos of the bag. I've never seen it. But I'd buy and try fin I ever did

I mentioned earlier this spring that it's a new product for 2015, as are their new "Applewood" briquets.

The apple-impregnated briqs are killer for poultry.

I have sung the praises of K lump briq's quite often over the last 2 months. I understand him to be asking about "lump"

My bad- I'm out

They used to have a real lump product called "charwood", but it was discontinued probably about 4-5 years ago.

Good...they would probably find a way to get that awful smell in it.

Saw it somewhere recently. I was interested in trying it, till I noticed the bag said mesquite. That was a no go for my taste. It comes in a white bag. https://www.kingsford.com/products/100-natural-lump-briquets/

Once wood has been cooked into charcoal it is just a heat source, all the flavor compounds are cooked out and burned off as wood gas leaving behind a lump of carbon IE charcoal.

Untraceable

Absolutly right. I've been making my own lump charcoal for two years.
It all burns very clean, no smell.

The difference in woods is how long they will burn as lump. I've found red oak to be the best for lasting and heat and burch to be the worst so far,
doesn't last long, still has good heat and again, no smell.
Never used apple or cherry, as those are my two best smoking woods.

Only other wood I haven't tried for lump, is pine, just can't bring myself to do it.

I bought some of this at my local Safeway..seems like the reg charcoal, with some wood stuff mixed in. I cooked 2 tri tips over it last night...worked well.
