I want a Vortex for my Weber 22.5 but can't swallow the over $50 price tag once shipped. Don't ask me why a 20 dollar bill makes a difference but it does.

Anyway does someone have the approximate dimensions of the medium one? I am going to make one.

Height and opening size on both ends If you have it.

Never heard of one until now. Similar to a STOK insert which I have, but I never thought about flipping the small side up. Interesting. :-D

I made one. I have more time than money however, it's way more work than you would think, especially if you don't have a roller to bend the material. Just making the pattern takes a while. The material doesn't cost much, but you still have to go get it. The one I made is 12" diameter at the base, 8" diameter at the top & 5" tall. Used 16 gauge hot rolled steel. I'm not sure if it's an exact copy. Works well.

Next time around, I probably would buy one. Seems like the best deal is on ebay.

I have the medium for my 22.5. robert-r has the dimensions right. I'm not sure though that I wouldn't like to have a smaller one too.

Did you actually get it? Mine was "shipped" around this date but the "2 day priority" shipping says its only got the pre shipping info. And here it is June 3rd and still only the pre shipping info......

I'm getting that little tingly feeling that you get when a ripoff/sorry service situation is about to happen.:tsk::tsk:

Oh well, I'll give'em a couple more days before I expel much energy and wind into this. ;)

I made a "ghetto" vortex out of a stainless steel flower pot/wine chiller/thingy i picked up at a thrift store. Used it last night for the first time in my weber. worked like a champ. The skin got nice and crispy, meat was juicy. We ended up with a righteous pile of bbq'd drummies.

Owens and Justin @ bbq smoker mods are really good people. Remember the Vortex is an American Made product that will stand the test of time.

I just broke down and purchased one. I have been eye balling them for a while. I was tempted by the free tanaka dust, but decided to go for the free shipping instead.

Just got off the phone with Justin from BBQSMOKERMODS

He said that the Vortex is backordered, but they will be getting them in and shipping Monday or so. So, if anybody else is waiting....that's the reason.

Yeah I actually ordered on the 25th, email said it was shipped the 28th. The tracking still showed not picked up so I emailed them. That is when they mentioned it being back ordered after I sent my order. Should be soon enough.

Made one from a stainless steel vegetable pan from business Costco. I just guesstimated the measurements and it works for me. Here is a linky for the build-I got 2 rings from the insert for both applications.

Finally pulled the trigger and ordered the Mini Vortex from Owens BBQ. Always looking for new ways to use my Jumbo Joe for tailgating and camping.

I wonder if you could just cut the bottom out of a wok?
