View Full Version : Who likes gelled fire starter?

I'm very happy how i start my fires ( which is primarily chimney and torch) but i'm all for squirting a little gel on the little bit of charcoal I like to light right in my basket. If its raining snowing etc.. I wouldn't mind lighting gel with my torch and saving on propane if it burns off quick.

So who has used it?

I have not used it but pretty much rely on the little Weber cubes. They work great so I'm guessing that "napalm in a squeeze bottle" would work fine also.

Actually a video i just watched convinced me that its basically hand sanitizer but a tad thicker. I have no problem pumping a half ts hand sanitizer on a couple coals and seeing what happens. Lol.... its just alcohol

The newspaper puts out ungodly terrible smoke on my chimney.

.

Granted, it's the Washington Post.

I hold a propane torch under my chimney to light it if I have time -
less noxious smoke -

Well, there is your answer!! Seriously though, mine smokes also when it first starts, but before the briqs are lit, the smoke is gone and just thin blue is visible. I use cooking oil soaked paper towels instead of newsprint now.

I bet a can of sterno is cheaper than that napalm toothpaste just dip out a dab. I use the weed torch exclusively

Heck Cooking oil may cost more than the Weber cubes in some cases.

80% of the time use weed burner, 20% Weber cubes.

Weber cubes are probably a li'l cheaper but it's just a lot of fun having a weed burner in one hand and a beer in the other.

Weber cubes, weed burner or my 100K+ BTU HP single burner turkey fryer. Never tried the "napalm" stuff, but I'm always looking for new ways to play w/ fire.

I put it on the ash catcher pan of my hb a few times. I didn't like how hot it got that painted surface. Cubes or torch for me. Now the napalm sits unused by the regular fluid.

I am probably 80% weed burner and 20% weber starter cubes. I use to use the propane ignition on my performer but it is currently broke. And as someone else mentioned, the funness factor of the torch needs to be figured in. I don't even have a big torch, just a small one that takes portable bottles.
