View Full Version : Breast Cancer Fundraiser for Teammate

03-24-2015, 02:21 PM
Our Grand Poobah invited me to share this here. Thank you Phil.

Within the past few weeks I found out that one of my teammates has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She has been a close friend for 24 years and a teammate since day 1 of Swamp Boys - about 11 years. We work together and she has insurance, but she is also a single parent raising 3 grandchildren ages newborn to 16. There are lots of costs associated with cancer treatments and this fundraiser is to help with that. 100% of proceeds will go to Robin so she can focus on winning this battle.
The men's shirts will be 50/50, the women's v neck only come in 100% cotton and run small I am told. I will be placing the first order this Monday (3/30) and the shirts will ship USPS as soon as I get them back. If there is enough interest I will place a second order later on. These are all pre-order. Thanks very much for your consideration! You can order from my web site: Help Us Help Robin (http://www.swampboys.com/wordpress/?p=1623)

donation sent here too.. Rub has done so much for BBQ, getting kids into our craft and also for us here too, thats its a pleasure to pay it forward. Cancer Sucks as we all know and having been through its weeds twice in the past year.. I know how it can effect a family. Hope we, as a group can help out a little to make it easier for Robin and her family.

Shirt ordered and a little donation also.
time out
Each year my wife and I cook for a cancer survivor dinner. There is music, usually a band, and at the end of the night each person gets a goody bag to take home all free of charge. It really is a nice evening out for the survivor and their caregiver.
Anyway during the evening the MC goes around the room with the mike and if the survivor is willing they can tell everyone how long they have been a survivor. There is one woman who attends every year and this year will be a 56 year breast cancer survivor. That's right her cancer has been in remission for 56 years.
So there is HOPE for Robin and all people dealing with cancer.
Sorry for the long post but I felt it was worth sharing.
Time in

What a great community the BBQ family is! I'm placing the order now for the t-shirts to help support Robin's breast cancer fight. Between Facebook and here we had orders from 26 states and The Netherlands, just over 200 shirts, and almost $600 in donations. Swamp Boys BBQ Team is going to cover the PayPal fees to help make everyone's contribution go the farthest. Any orders after now will go on the next batch. You all are making a difference, God bless!
