I made it just under the wire on the "Winter Sale", and picked up some top sirloins and a couple Porterhouse steaks. I purchased both SRF American Kobe 8oz Top Sirloin, $13.00 each on sale, and Double R Ranch 10oz Top Sirloin $7.00 each on sale.

The steaks;

My initial impression........Not a big difference in marbling, maybe a bit more in the SRF, not a difference that jumps out at you.

Simply seasoned.

You can see the marbling a little better in this shot above.
A little salad to go along;

Both very good steaks. I did not notice any difference as far as texture, not like the rib eye. I did not get that "buttery" texture, but there was a noticeable difference in flavor, the SRF Kobe certainly had a richer, beefier flavor, not huge, but definitely there.

Worth more than twice the price? Hard to say with this single test. As before, I think for a special occasion I might spend the extra cash AT THE SALE PRICE:grin:.

Darn good steaks, certainly better than the local grocery store. I haven't compared to the butcher shop..........yet:twitch:, maybe a future review.

Anyway, it was a fabulous dinner.

Thanks for looking all.

Keep on Qing an/or grilling.

Loving these reviews - steaks look excellent :clap2:

This might be sacrilege but how do you compare these to Costco Prime sirloin? I've been getting them lately and like them a lot.

I've never done a side by side, but I really like the prime sirloins from Costco as well.I just may have to try that:biggrin1:.

Thanks, just one of those things I picked up from a thread on this sight. It really works well when you are doing a single steak or two, you do have to watch it though, it gets VERY hot, I burnt the S$#t out of a couple of steaks the first time I used it:crazy:. It works especially nice for a reverse sear like I did here;

Great looking meat and thanks for the review. With steaks of that quality I would have gone reverse sear.

I bought the exact same steaks on that sale. I haven't tried the Kobe yet but did do one of the Double R Ranch Top sirloins/ baseball cut. It was really good, not super tender but very edible.. Not a bit of waste, could eat every bite. No chunks of fat or gristle to be found. A bargain for $7 bucks. I look forward to doing the same side by side very soon with the Kobe and Double R. Thanks for the post/review

I find this hilarious like comparing Lite beer to Pappy Van Winkle 23, between AKB and some Cow. What makes you think the the meat from a Butcher will taste any different than the meat from the Butcher counter in your Local Grocer??? It all comes from the same packers them cows don't have a say in the matter when they hit the Kill Floor as to where they go it aint like they is spoke for in advance. There are to many factors involved starting with blood lines, genetics, breeding, diet, climate, time on pasture & supplement, or free ranged that determine the finish product on the plate. Cows are as different as people are in there make up> sometimes you get a loosing hand despite having a stacked deck or dealing seconds.

By chance I saw these at my local QFC today and picked one up $7 for 6 oz. Looks about like Costco prime, maybe a little more marbling. i may have a chance to compare soon :thumb:
