Walmart has brisket for $2.98/#. That's the cheapest I've seen in a while. I'm confused. I don't know if I should get the warm and fuzzy's about it or not.

I would feel great about it. $2.98/lb for brisket is super cheap here. Normally for a full packer you are going to pay about $3.70+/lb

What grade are thr briskets?

That was going to be my question. They mix the choice, select and ungraded in my area and they are all the same price.

The grade would be the determining factor for me... If they were choice or better I'd be excited.

I hope it goes well. I've never been impressed with Wally World meat. Never bought a good steak there. I go next door to Publix and pay... Or if I'm more broke that usual I'll go to Winn Dixie.

This is all of course if they didn't have what I need at the Commissary on base, they usually have good meat and they have the best prices.

Wal Mart has Excellent Brisket. When they have the big bin filled, the secret is to DIG! The kids who work there have no idea what Choice or Prime or select is, and they just toss everything into the bin. Dig, and you will find choice and prime 99% of the time. It is a deal.

I would have to buy another freezer while I was there because I would buy them all at $2.98/lb. The only thing I can get that cheap off a cow here is ground beef :mad2:

I got in trouble for doing that when Walmart had the $1.67/LB sale last year or the year before. Took me months to cook them all. I will check today to see if I can sneak a couple of choice before they disappear.

Must be a Wal-mart Texas deal. Because my Wal-Mart is consistently higher than most of the stores around me in regards to their meats. Packer briskets are generally 4.99/lb if not higher. And don't even get me started on the 6.99/lb+ on flats.:tsk:

It's all good though. My beloved Harris Teeter rarely lets me down for cheap quality eats and my local artisanal butcher NEVER lets me down when it's time for high on the hog vittles.:-D

Paid $2.99/lb at Kroger this afternoon for select. Was limit one with a $20 purchase.

I just paid $9.99/lb at my local butcher shop.

They would have had the use the defibrillator on me when i saw that price tag. No wonder there are so many vegans in California.

In reality, there is not a lot of difference in the grades of brisket, as they are cooked to a tender state any way. Maybe if you were competing then it might matter. For a good ole family BBQ then select is good if you "select" a good one to cook. I could even afford one at those rates.

They are select. Big Dan is right. The secret is to dig! There are several times that I pass on them, but usually find some pretty good briskets there. Heck, last year I won first place brisket off a $26 Walmart brisket out of 62 teams!

Lol! I thought that once too. ONCE!!! Then I figured it's better for me that they don't know what to look for. Hell, I thought about randomly cursing about the quality while I do it to throw them off......but that just ain't right....:biggrin1:

My Walmart had 2 briskets. 1 ungraded and 1 19LB choice. The choice was really nice but we struggle to finish a 12LB one so it had to stay.

The Walmart I go to usually has about 10-15 out in the case to chose from at all times. Others I've been to only have 1-5 out.
