I mentioned a few weeks back that I won a Mini BGE at a chili contest. :first:
It's a pretty neat little cooker. I haven't had an opportunity to use it up until now, so I thought I would try a yard bird.

No room on the deck, this set up will have to do.

Brined this overnight in Mad Hunky Poultry Brine and seasoned well with Mad Hunky General Purpose Rub.

Kinda made a holder for the bird so it stayed vertical.

A few pieces of lump in the chimney starter was all it needed to get up to 400*, within minutes!

Pulled at 170, cooking time was roughly an hour.

Wanted some crunchier skin, I think I'll add some more lump next time.

Love the MH Poultry Brine. Juicy and delicious as always.

Nice.
Lucky dog. I've been eyeballing the mini max. Just not in the budget.

Cooking at 400 degrees for 1 hour, I'm surprised the skin didn't get crispy. I wonder if the bird was too big for the cooker and not enough space for the heat to move around. In any case, it looks tasty!

Thanks!
I put the bird on when it hit 400 degrees. It dropped from there. I had to take the thermometer out of the top of the Egg because it was hitting the bird.
So I just went by IT at that point.
More lump next time. :thumb:

Sam, that's a cute cooker!! When I looked at your first picture, I thought you had an umbrella or something attached to it.  ... but I see it's a pole in the yard. I must not be awake today!! :biggrin1:
Your chicken looks SO good, so does the rest of your meal. Thanks for the post!
