Was just at Costco and they had one Prime packer brisket sitting next to four or five Choice briskets. The price of the prime brisket was $4.25/lb and the choice were $6.50/lb.

I'm not sure if they were mis-priced or what. The choice briskets were smaller but they were still in the 8 or 9 lb range.

In any case I picked up a 12lb prime brisket for $52 and threw it in the freezer.

Now I just need this weather to warm up a little so I can season the new Battle Box and throw that thing on there.

If I see something like that, whatever the cut or type of meat, the next thing is look at the sell date....not every time, but most often, the lower price is older & needs to move out....even if it's higher grade........

There's a chain around here that sells different grades in different stores at the same sale ad price....who knows sometimes?

Smart & Final will do that too. Gotta be careful. That said I'm not really that sure if they are going by the pack date on the box half the time either.

Was the prime a packer and the choice flats? Typically the per pound price for flats is higher.

Both has the same sell by date which was 02/25 and both were packers.

I see that at my Costco all the time. Never understood it. And never brought it up because I don't want them to wise up!

I get lucky every now and then and HEB has prime or choice for the same price as selects if they run out of selects.

I usually buy choice packers from RD...but saw a good price at Costco for the prime packers at about the same price...snapped one up....cooked it....didn't seem to have the flavor of the choice from RD. I thought is was a fluke or something I did different. Then a coworker said the same thing happened to him. Now I have to say....hmmmm?

If this was the South County one, I posted a picture of that exact brisket yesterday.
The ones next to it were choice flats, not whole packers.
