View Full Version : Can you ID this wood?

Anybody know what kind of wood this is? This is from my firewood stack for home heating, I've noticed it has a slight cinnamon scent to it when it burns and I find it exceptionally pleasing, but I have no idea what it is.

looks like alder to me.........does the wood turn orange when the bark is chopped away?

After looking at google photos, I think you may be correct. One site said it was an awkward wood to split with an axe because it twists, which makes sense with the shapes of this wood that I did get. I certainly love the smell of it

We had a few beech trees in the yard at my parents house, and I would agree that is what it looks like, but it's hard to say from one picture.

I've already burned up this piece. If i find another piece in the next load I bring in I'll post up some more photos. I feel pretty confident in the others saying its Beech though

Another vote for beech. Good hard high btu wood with pleasant mild flavor.
