What are some of your opinions on liquid sweeteners for side sauces, and why is it you like some over others? Corn syrup, honey, simple syrup, maple syrup, etc... I use honey in most of my recipes to some degree, it just hits the flavor profile I look for, but the price just keeps on climbing.

For bbq sauce, I like combining different sweeteners like light agave nectar and honey. This way you don't get too much of one flavor.

It depends on what I am making. I use Honey, Maple Syrup and Agave most of the time.

I tend to use honey more than anything, because I can get it from a friend who has hives in his orchard. For BBQ sauce, I use a combination of honey and molasses.
Maple syrup or Agave mostly, most people around here uses honey so got to be different.

Anyone use clear corn syrup? I've tried the dark but didn't love it.

Honey for sure. Sometimes maple, but that stuff is expensive too. Being from cane country, I've been considering trying cane syrup. Anyone ever try it?

Try Lyle's Golden syrup.
I make a simple syrup with Turbinado sugar and use for a lot of things, including mixed drinks.

Molasses, honey and apple juice.
I love the flavor of molasses, it's rich, caramely and complex.
Honey is sometimes too sweet for me, but a little is nice.
I use a little apple juice to thin it down a bit, and it adds a little sweet zing that compliments the ACV perfectly.

Molasses and apple juice for sure for these reasons^^^^.
I like honey as well, but you have to be careful when heating it or you can lose the flavors and nutrients in it and end up with expensive sweetener. I add honey only when my sauce is cooled to about 80°F.

I like maple syrup in BBQ sauce, just to give it a slightly different flavor from most. I use molasses in some side dishes, and agave in other things.

We love the different Agave profiles. The darker agave almost has an anejo quality to it. Also great local honeys and several different molasses. And like above mentioned, simple syrups are awesome if you're really looking to kick up a couple notches.

Light brown sugar.
I use agave nectar, honey, maple syrup in that order of frequency

Well, being a type 2 diabetic I was forced a couple of years ago to switch to non sugar sweeteners. Fortunately I've always used a pretty basic Texas style sauce that isn't sweet anyway (especially on beef) but when I decide to have a sweeter sauce for pork or chicken I actually use sugar free pancake syrup. I think it tastes pretty good and even other family members who hate diet sodas and other artificially sweetened foods (due to aftertaste) say that they can't taste the difference.:-D

I have a few base sauce recipes that I vary the liquids and sweeteners in. I may use sugar, agave nectar, honey, maple syrup, molasses, simple syrup, apple juice concentrate, or corn syrup. I have had a lot of success with these variables to the point where I do not use store bought sauce at all any more.

I use just about all sweeteners mentioned. I am also diabetic, because any sweetener is basically just sugar based, so Stevia is what I primarily use for drink sweeteners and a few other things now that you can get it in the store in either liquid or granulated form, but for some food it is not suitable, or just cost to much. I love honey and molasses, plus there are good health benefits from either, the others not so much.
