the meat of choice is always up in the air, but the other things are necessary around my house......black eyed peas, turnip greens, cabbage and cornbread......

i decided that the meat was going to be brisket, a cut that i usually avoid, but that i do love. i had to pay $7/lb for this "full brisket"......yes, the label on the package said so....... smh.

in any event. the brisket turned out good, not great, but nobody complained.

You've got your turnip greens, collard greens, mustard greens. Any are good. Pick a mess of them, wash them, simmer them with some fatback or salt bacon or bacon grease. It's on! I'll bet they would grow good down your way. If I'm not mistaken they are a Fall crop.

thanks! you caught the "almost all"! ha! just a little jesting.

those bad boys (crawfish) are running about $6+ a pound down here. i'd love some, but the price is too crazy at the moment.

I agree. I asked the shrimp guy for 10 shrimp = he said "Ten pounds?"
No - 10. Steamed, chilled, cocktail sauce. 6 for me, 4 for her.

Very nice...Like to dig into a heaping plate of that..and gotta love a Founders brew to wash it all down! :thumb:

Question slightly off topic - how does that slicer/chopper in the second pic w/ the onions in it work? I'd assume it's pretty good since you obviously used it and it's full. Saw the infomercial for them the other night and thought it looked like a good idea, but you never know w/ the As Seen on TV stuff!

thanks!

i'm glad you asked about the chopper, because i'd never probably take a chance on something like that. i'm friends with one of my best friend's mom on facebook and she sees my cooking posts all the time. she asked me if i had ever tried one and, i'm like you, sounds good, but it's on tv, so that can't work. she ended up having one drop shipped to me and this was the first time i have ever used it. it actually works as advertised. i was shocked. i won't bust it out to chop an onion or three, but i did a half a dozen in no time once i halved them with this thing. the catcher on the bottom holds about four cups of chopped onions.
