View Full Version : Frozen meat problem...

I just received a cooler FULL of freshly harvested venison from this past week that was frozen in garbage bags.. The problem is, when I opened the cooler I quickly realized whoever froze them used those dang odor shield bags!!! Is this venison salvageable or should I just toss it? Maybe an ice bath with salt?

You might try contacting the company. I'm guessing they are probably Glad bags. If so here is a link. https://www.glad.com/contact-us/

Doubtful that any garbage bag is made from food grade plastic.

Contacted Glad. Apparently I am fine... I am going to thaw it all out, throw it in an ice bath and wash the crud out of it.. We will see.

Fried up some of the backstrap just now.. Once washed, cleaned, and cooked I couldn't notice any hint of fragrance..

I am glad the venison is salvageable... I'd hate to think that deer died to be wasted!!!

Good deal.

No smell, should be good.

Thankful it's not wasted meat. I use black contractor bags
to store the big cuts in my cooler, then when I get home, clean
all meat, dry and pack. I butcher all our deer,
we had 6 and could've made a vid.

I will snatch pics next leg.
