Another camp meal...
Wanted to try a crab stuffed salmon slab on the tractor rim, see if it would work without being too much of a pain. I make these at home on the smoker and grill but wanted to experiment. :)

I thought about stringing the brussel sprouts on a skewer but said to heck with it and used my popcorn popper.
Added bacon and drippings, onions, garlic, coarse salt and cracked black pepper..

Just gave it a shake every once in awhile..

made the crab stuffing ... crab, onions, garlic, parsley, lemon juice...Pookie G Dayum rub (love this stuff)... I think that was all.

Thank you again Wickedcajun for the Pookie G, it's great!

trimmed and stuffed the salmon...seasoned it with Pookie G Season All..

Left the skin on the fish and oiled well before placing on the tractor rim...

had a log burning low on each side of the fish, no fire underneath...

It took about 30 minutes to cook...
I watched for the juices to rise.

It worked well. I was worried it would stick to the grill or be a pain to lift off, but it didn't give me any trouble at all.

I toasted bagels and spread them with cream cheese, onions, seasonings and topped with leftover salmon the next day.. It was tasty too. :)

Love me some salmon steaks! We have them about once a week around here lately. Cheaper than rib-eyes, and a whole lot better for you. I especially like your choice of camp fine china plates. We use the same pattern at our house! Really love the clean up. :thumb: Another fine cook from the "Master"!

Have a Blessed day!

Better than restaurant quality! I like the way you stuffed the salmon. Btw, did the salmon start cooking with the skin on?

Hate Fish but that's me, The Vegetables in your Popper grabbed my attention big time.
Onion and potato in one would be a killer
Never seen one of them.
So you do popcorn over coals?

Jeanie I break out in a sweat every time I type your name, my first wife, the plaintiff's name, but mainly for the gustatory sweating your photo's invoke.
Just curious, I've never grilled salmon without bronzing the meat side a tad. Does yours cook through or is it a little on the rare side? Beautiful. Looks like you cooked a little extra. Would love to have been a lucky guest.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! I mainly wanted to see if it would work on the campfire with minimum fuss. It did so I was happy!

Better than restaurant quality! I like the way you stuffed the salmon. Btw, did the salmon start cooking with the skin on?
Bruce thank you! I'm not sure if I understand your question. I left the skin on and it cooked fine. I've made this before on the grill at home and fix it the same way.. http://cowgirlscountry.blogspot.com/2012/06/crab-stuffed-salmon-on-hasty-bake.html

Thank you Titch! I usually make popcorn over the fire or hot embers at night. Love the way the smoke adds flavor to it. :-D

Wow Ms Jeanie

Thanks so much G! Your Pooking G seasonings added SO much flavor to the salmon and crab. I just loved it!

lol Thanks QDoc!
I don't usually bronze the top of salmon. I just grill skin side down and watch for the juices to rise. When I see juice and the salmon flakes, I pull it from the heat and let it set a few minutes before serving.
I do the same at home.. http://cowgirlscountry.blogspot.com/2012/06/crab-stuffed-salmon-on-hasty-bake.html
There were three of us at the campsite for this meal but we used the leftovers pretty fast the next day. lol

Thank you Jacob and Westy!!

Very nice Jeanie. I followed your recipe to make "basic" salmon (without the stuffing) and it turns out great. One of these days I may need to try it with the crab.

I've said it before Jeannie, you're good.

You're very good.

And that salmon looks out of this world.

On another note, our mutual friend, HWSW, was going to drop off some walleye for me yesterday or today, but he hasn't showed yet. Your cook has me jonesin' for some good fish now. If he doesn't show, I'll have to go to a lutefisk dinner at some Lutheran church. NTTAWWT!

Thank you!! I've stuffed salmon this way using shrimp and liked it too, but crab is my favorite.

Walleye sounds fantastic! I have had some caught by HWSW... it's out of this world good!

I've been missing him too, and he stopped by minutes after I posted.

I didn't give him a hug, but I gave him a couple of really firm handshakes and a great big smile.
