I was browsing Amazon today, and saw a few electric smokers with glass fronts. They were fairly cheap, and I thought I might be able to use it as a hot holder for catering events, etc. Has anyone on the forum done this before? If you can dial it in on about 150-170 degrees, it might be workable. What do you think?

I have used my electric as a hot box. Never for catering or anything but it works fine.

Temp wise, they should work just fine.
Obviously check the internal dimensions to assure they will hold pans or whatever you hold in.
Good Luck

Masterbuilt even advertises that they can be used as an extra oven/holding box on big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Never used mine for catering... But use them all the time as ovens/hot boxes... Work great but only fit 13x9 pans...

I think 170*'is as low as my Masterbuilt will run.

My electric runs from 100 to 270° with 13x20" racks and works fine for resting butts and brisket.

That is perfect for me. At home, I hot hold in one of my ovens at 170. Works great. This is sounding better all the time!
