Hey guys I'm in the market to purchase a nice meat grinder for a good price. You guys have any suggestions of a good quality piece of equipment at the right price?

If you are only going to do 5 to 10 lbs of meat at a time for home use, save your money and get a manual crank grinder. I have a manual one and an electric one. The manual grinder is much easier to work with in spite of having to crank it and it is SOOOO much easier to clean. It also has a sausage casing filler attachment. Works good and saves a lot of cleanup work.

What about also the option of the kitchen aid meat grinder attachment?

If you have that kind of money, go for it. I hear it works well.
Tasin TS-108, (http://www.onestopjerkyshop.com/tasin-ts-108-electric-meat-grinder-1/) I have one for over 10 years, no problems whatsoever... 150 bucks now - i believe i paid around 80 or so..

Yeah just weighing my options. I'd rather pay a lil more if I get a cheap one and its junk. But sounds like the hand crank one does the job well

If you gotta have an electric one, here is the cheapest one I'd suggest -

But, this is the one I now use -

I would steer Clear of the Harbor Freight unit. I'm not a fan of the KA grinder as well. I had to cut Meat in small chunks as well as get it 1/4 frozen before thawing & even then it had poor performance.
I ended up getting grinder below. LOVE IT!!! It takes everything I can throw at it without even flinching! I take eye of round & bacon to make burgers. Never even had to think about chilling the meat.

from what i read at the time Tasin was the best of the bunch (metal gears vs plastic)
I have no clue how the other are, quality wise...

I purchased the LEM #8 / .35 hp and found it to be an excellent grinder. I started to get into grinding my own beef for burgers and making my own sausage and for what I do, it will last me a lifetime. It also has sausage stuffing tubes and unless you need a separate sausage stuffer, it does a good job filling the casings.

I have a LEM and love it. Went with the #12 and it is a beast. You pay more but I agree will last forever. It will grind as fast as you can feed it. Connects to the mixer for sausage and has the stuffer attachments but I use a dedicated stuffer if doing more than a few pounds.
Been the hand crank route and don't plan on going back

What about also the option of the kitchen aid meat grinder attachment?
I used my wife's Kitchen Aid meat grinder recently to grind pork for home made fried meat dumplings and while it got the job done, there are stress fractures in the grinder attachment in several places. I'm not impressed with the quality of the other plastic attachments either.
I'm now looking for a hand grinder.

ETA A quick search online led me to http://benstarr.com/blog/finally-an-all-stainless-steel-meat-grinder-attachment-for-kitchenaid-smokehouse-chef (http://benstarr.com/blog/finally-an-all-stainless-steel-meat-grinder-attachment-for-kitchenaid-smokehouse-chef/) An all stainless steel meat grinder for a Kitchen Aid that's supposed to be very good. They recommend the higher power model Kitchen Aids though so check your model first.

There are several meat grinder in basic price, if you want to use the high quality grinder, I would suggest the commercial meat grinder and the hand meat grinder is better in my experience.

I have a Weston Model 33-021-W that I paid $99 for, and so far it hasn't backed down from anything. I posted a thread a while back of some sirloin that I ground, about 50 lbs. worth. It is certainly worth the money.
The LEM's are a nice unit, and they go on sale regularly,
The OLD aluminum Kitchen aide attachment was ok, but you need to cut the meat in thin strips and it has a tendency to mush the meat a little, the new ones,? lot of plastic for what you pay.

I have this one and I am very happy with it. I can grind up a chuck roast in no time. Just remember to cut the meat down to size and chill it before grinding.
Shop around for the best price. I actually found the best deal at Home Depot with free shipping.

Another vote for the LEM #8. Got it on a lighting deal on Amazon.... iirc $140 or so.
Very pleased with it. Way overkill for my needs. I'm thinking it will last my lifetime & beyond.
