Great deals and from a great company. My display suddenly hit the dust after a few years for some unknown reason so I called ThermoWorks and sent the unit to them for repair.

Two days later, they sent a brand new unit as a replacement! Gotta love these people!

I just got a thermopop the other day and tried it out on some chicken last night.

Dayum, this thing is fast! I was able to take 4 different measurements in the time I could get 1 on my old digital. About 3 or 4 seconds is fast enough for me!

If not, is there really that much of a need for a backlit version?

I have a ThermaPen and love it. Super fast feedback on temperatures! Only instant read thermometer I will use.

I ordered a backlit blue during one of the prior open box sales. Looks and performs like new. The backlight, to me, is invaluable, as I always seem to be smoking somewhere in the dark.
